Learn why the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources determined: “Mattawoman represents as near to ideal conditions as can be found in the northern Chesapeake Bay…and should be protected from overdevelopment.”
Learn why we face a crucial window of opportunity as the Mattawoman watershed increasingly loses forest and is being covered with surfaces impervious to rainwater infiltration. Once destroyed, it can never be recreated.
Learn about the immediate threat of a new proposed highway: Charles County wants to build a new four-lane highway that parallels Rt. 228 and connects Rt. 301 to Bryans Road. Like all new highways in a lightly populated area, it will lead to enormous inappropriate growth (sprawl) with especially severe impacts for our area.
Learn why Mattawoman is valuable and vulnerable and how you can help to save it and our quality of life.
